A view of the Diezerpoort (Dieze-gate) in 1921, decorated to celebrate the visit of Queen Wilhelmina. Around the corner at the right side, on the way out of town, is the Diezerpoortenplas and across the water is what was in the 18th century called the 'Nieuwstad', the 'Newtown'. 'My' Stremmelaars almost all lived in the Nieuwstad (now: Thomas à Kempisstraat), outside of the Diezerpoort. My great-grandfather Gerrit Jan Stremmelaar owned a paintstore on the Diezerpoortenplas.
