Each story is far more complete (and complex) then outlined on these
pages. In my personal ancestral files there is a wealth of additional
information, literally trunks full of
pictures, letters, postcards, journals, poetry albums, souvenirs,
newspaper cuttings, menus, mourning cards, accounts, programmes and seating
plans, wedding songs, bibles and books etc. plus embroidered tablecloths in my
linen cupboard, not all archives consist of paper ... A glimpse of these treasures can be
seen
on the pages of an album I created to celebrate the life and century of my
maternal grandmother, Jansje van den Berg (1900 - 1996):
